You Me At Six - Hammersmith Apollo, London - December 16th 2010 (Live Review)

You Me at Six have come a long way since the release of ‘Save it for the Bedroom’ in 2007. I can still remember the strange looks I got in HMV when I asked for that record, but three years later the band seem to be everywhere.

It’s a quarter to seven and fans line the chilly streets outside Hammersmith Apollo – the former twenty something music geeks (like myself) have since been replaced by a mob of squealing teenage girls (probably on the back of supporting a post-Twilight Paramore back in 2009).

ImageTonight’s support comes in the form of highly forgettable US rockers Set Your Goals and everyone’s favourite support act The Blackout – who always threaten to upstage the headliners with their strong stage presence and growing fan base of their own.

You Me at Six burst on to the stage on the dot of half past 9 with the anthem that was their debut single. Jumping around and injecting energy into an already frenzied crowd, Josh and Co. have arrived with an almighty bang.

As the set of their second London date continues, front man Josh’s impressive vocal never falters, shown at its best during the amazingly catchy ‘Finders Keepers’ and ‘Always Attract’.

Overall, tonight’s gig is really good; a combination of textbook crowd pleasers like ‘Jealous Minds’ and acoustic treats from the band’s first album ‘Take Off Your Colours’.

And aside from the ‘parental supervision’ element of tonight’s audience, You Me at Six prove they still have that understated coolness as they end their set with ‘Underdog’.

I know I’ll be coming back for more.
