Adele Breaks Chart Record With 10 Weeks At Number One

Adele has broken a chart record after earning her tenth week at the top of the UK albums chart. The London-born singer has earned the title of longest-running Number One for a female artist, after breaking Madonna’s nine-week record with ‘The Immaculate Collection’.

Adele managed to rack up her highest ever week of sales, shifting over 250,000 copies of her sophomore album ‘21’ in the last seven days. The spike in sales can most probably be put down to the fact that last week fans would have bought the record as a gift for Mother’s day. As well as becoming the longest-running female Number One, Adele also became the first artist in 25 years to hold on to the top spot for so long. The last artist to do so was Dire Straits in 1986 with ‘Brothers In Arms’.

Meanwhile, Radiohead earned the Number Seven spot after the physical release of ‘The King of Limbs’, and Britney Spears landed at Number Eight after the first-week sales of her recent release, ‘Femme Fatale’.

In terms of the singles chart, Jennifer Lopez managed to knock Adele from the top spot, earning Number One with her new release ‘On The Floor’. The unexpected hit is J-Lo’s third UK Number One, the last of which she achieved in 2005 with ‘Get Right’.
