Nominations Revealed For 2013 Relentless Kerrang! Awards

Thursday, 09 May 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

Kerrang! has revealed this year’s nominations for the Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2013. The night of rock’n’roll mayhem, taking place on Thursday 13th June, this year moves to an exciting new East End venue, Troxy, and is hosted by Blink-182 legend Mark Hoppus and Anthrax guitar god Scott Ian.

It’s a contest of Windy City VS Steel City, as Chicago natives Fall Out Boy return to the rock scene with four nominations up against Sheffield superstars Bring Me The Horizon, who have a nomination number to match. Also up for a total of four awards are Californians Pierce The Veil, following their breakthrough year touring with fellow nominees All Time Low.

Recently reunited pop-punk heroes Fall Out Boy are making a comeback to remember at this year’s Relentless Kerrang! Awards, with a total of four nominations. They include two for Best Single, ('My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)' and 'The Phoenix'), plus Best International Band and Best Event, for their recent intimate comeback gig at London’s Camden Underworld in February 2012.

Championed by Kerrang! from the very beginning, Bring Me The Horizon released their fourth album, 'Sempiternal', this year, to worldwide critical acclaim. They’ve previously won three Kerrang! Awards, and this year they vie for the titles of Best Single (presented by Kerrang! Radio), Best Album, Best Video (presented by Kerrang! TV) and Best British Band.

American rockers Black Veil Brides have been nominated for three awards: Best Album, Best Live Band (presented by Relentless) and Best International Band (presented by Impericon). There’s also an individual shoutout for lead singer Andy Biersack for Hottest Male.

America may dominate the nominations – with Green Day up for Best International Band, plus appearances from US stars Paramore, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy and Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame – but fear not! The Brits could still take the Awards by storm. Welsh party starters The Blackout have been nominated for Best Live Band, along with fellow countrymen Bullet For My Valentine. The incredible Don Broco are also nominated for Best Album for their debut 'Priorities', and Kerrang! favourites You Me At Six are nominated in new category Best Event for their Wembley Arena show, You Me At Six: The Final Night of Sin.

Following an award for Services To Metal last year, Download is up for Best Festival, alongside Slam Dunk Festival, Reading and Leeds festivals, Hit The Deck and Vans Warped Tour UK.

This year’s Hottest Female sees Paramore’s leading lady, Hayley Williams, battling it out with rock siren Lzzy Hale. Controversial comedian Frankie Boyle is nominated for Best Comedian along with Stateside comedic genius Louis CK, proving that this infamously raucous night is set to be the rock event of the year.

Kerrang! Editor James McMahon says:

“Once again the Relentless Kerrang! Awards returns to celebrate all that is great and good in rock music. I can say for a fact that all other awards ceremonies are crap compared to ours. I know this because I’ve been to loads of them, and ours is the only one where I’ve ever ended up on a rooftop talking to Jack Black about what pigeon tastes like at 3am.

The secret is that we only do this for the fans. Yeah, I know that makes me sound like Bob Geldof or something. But it’s true. We only do this to celebrate the music the readers love, and to create new stories and a bit of magic that makes the music world that little bit more exciting than it would be if we didn’t get a whole load of stars in a room and say, ‘Let’s rock!’
