Rock 'n' Roll Pioneer Chuck Berry Dies Aged 90

Sunday, 19 March 2017 Written by Huw Baines

Chuck Berry has died aged 90.

The guitarist and vocalist was one of the most influential voices in rock ‘n’ roll and played a major role in defining the genre through songs such as Johnny B. Goode and Roll Over Beethoven.

His death was confirmed in a statement from the St. Charles County police department in Missouri and a family message released on social media.

We are deeply saddened to announce that Chuck Berry - beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather - passed away at his home today at the age of 90. Though his health had deteriorated recently, he spent his last days at home surrounded by the love of his family and friends. The Berry family asks that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.
