Adwaith have shared Y Diweddaraf, a track from their forthcoming debut album.
The Carmarthen-based trio will put out 'Melyn', which is mostly delivered in Welsh, on October 12 through Libertino Records. In a statement about Y Diweddaraf, they said:
"We wrote the music and lyrics together as a band in our rehearsal space, jamming the opening hypnotic riff over and over. The song is a reaction to everyone saying leaving uni to do music was stupid! It’s about feeling empowered to do whatever you want regardless."
Within the first few bars, thanks to the lo-fi, scuzzy approach, you're reminded of experimental post-punk bands such as Sonic Youth. There are also flecks of vintage rock and pop throughout which brighten things up and ensure the track isn't weighed down by its heavier influences.
The band will support Gwenno on her upcoming UK tour. Head here for dates.
