Skating Polly Announce Autumn UK Shows, Share New Single Flyer

Tuesday, 21 May 2019 Written by Laura Johnson

Skating Polly will play UK shows this autumn as part of a wider European tour.

The sibling trio will call in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, London, Bournemouth and Cardiff, where they'll play as part of Sŵn Festival, between October 14 and 20. They'll be joined by special guest She Makes War. Tickets are on sale now.

Alongside the tour announcement, the band have shared a new track, Flyer, which acts as a counter-part to their Play House single. The track lives up to the ugly pop description they previously gave themselves, mixing sweet, understated melodies and hooks with off-kilter, guttural screams and grunge-influenced guitars. Kelli Mayo — who shares guitar, bass and vocal duties with her sister Peyton Bighorse — said:

“Flyer” is about this overwhelming self consciousness and agoraphobia that’s been hitting me a lot lately. I was scared to leave the house, scared to see my friends, scared to make decisions of any kind. That led to writers block because I wouldn’t stick with any choices. So I made a deal with myself. “Play House” was gonna be a straight forward song structure with playful and abstract lyrics and “Flyer” would have a very abstract song structure and very personal sincere lyrics. Peyton wrote my favourite part of the whole song “I’ve had more than enough time to learn what I felt was not a thought crime”.

We caught up with Skating Polly last year to talk about life on the road. Check out the interview here.

td#right {display:none !important;} SUMMER. IS. FINALLY. HERE. Festival season is now upon us: the bumbags have been fished from the back of the wardrobe, the wellies have been scrubbed clean of two year’s worth of forgotten Glastonbury mud and you’ve stocked up on various colours of glitter from the craft shop. You discerning music fanatics now have an important choice to make: “Which festivals should you go to?” Stereoboard know your pain. Every year we’re faced with the same dilemma, and with the UK festival scene growing faster than you can count your ever-growing collection of wristbands, it’s never been harder to decide. If only there were some sort of guide to help you through… Here we are then. The best of the fests, organised by where you might be in the country.
