Sacred Bones Records have announced a posthumous Alan Vega album.

'Mutator' is due out on April 23 and is the first in a series of archival releases from the late Suicide frontman that the label will put out.

Vega died in his sleep on July 16, 2016 aged 78. Throughout his entire career he was extremely prolific, though much of his work was shelved before being released, kept in what was nicknamed the Vega Vault.

'Mutator' was recorded at Vega's New York City studio from 1995 to '96 alongside his longtime collaborator Liz Lamere. Along with his friend Jared Artaud, in 2019 Lamere unearthed the raw, unmixed recordings of the 'Mutator' sessions. They joined forces to mix and produce the tracks into a releasable record. Artaud said:

“The moment Liz and I discovered the original ADAT tapes of Mutator, we knew we had found something special and felt strongly that it needed to be shared out in the world. Mutator bridges the gap between the past and present. It’s something we feel he would have been really proud of, seeing this lost album released today. In so many ways, his music is needed now more than ever.”

Remembering the original recording sessions, Lamere also commented:

“Alan was driven to create, his focus always on looking ahead to discover new terrain by experimenting with sound and visuals. He rarely looked back at what he had done before, and as soon as he was moving in a new direction it became a relentless pursuit of the unknown. Our primary purpose for going into the studio was to experiment with sound, not to ‘make record. I was playing the machines with Alan manipulating sounds. I played riffs while Alan morphed the sounds being channeled through the machines.”

Head below for the album's first single, Nike Solider, which brings together elements of electro, industrial and post-punk for a dark, suspenseful soundscape.

'Mutator' tracklist:

1. Trinity
2. Fist
3. Muscles
4. Samurai
5. Filthy
6. Nike Soldier
7. Psalm 68
8. Breathe
