The follow-up to 2021's 'Ultrapop' is titled 'Perfect Saviors' and will arrive on August 25 via Sargent House. It was co-produced by vocalist Tony Wolski, alongside Ben Chisholm and Queens of the Stone Age's Troy Van Leeuwen, with mixing by Alan Moulder.
As a preview, the Detroit-based band have released the record's chaotic lead single, Sport Of Form, which features Memphis singer-songwriter Julien Baker contributing backing vocals.
Shape-shifting through flashes of hyper-intense electronic effects, heavy hardcore and harmonised poppy moments, it comes with a surreal Wolski-directed video that sees punk icon Iggy Pop playing the role of God. Wolski commented:
"Lyrically, this song is about the human need to win a game that we’re not even actually playing. Sonically, it is a reflection of that cognitive dissonance through a constant whiplash between beauty and ugliness, severity and tenderness, obscenity and grace."
The Armed will tour the US in August, supporting Queens Of The Stone Age. They also have headline shows in the diary for the autumn. Tickets for the latter go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (June 30).
