André 3000 To Release Debut Solo Album 'New Blue Sun' This Friday

Tuesday, 14 November 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

André 3000 will release his debut solo album this week.

The Atlanta artist will drop 'New Blue Sun' on Friday (November 17), marking his first musical project in 17 years.

Sharing details in an exclusive interview with NPR Music, the Outkast rapper and singer revealed that the project isn't the release that fans may be expecting from him. Instead, according to NPR Music, it's an 87-minute collection of minimalist, experimental songs performed with wind instruments, in place of any beats, bars and singing. Speaking with NPR, he said:

"I love rap music because it was a part of my youth. So I would love to be out here with everybody rapping, because it’s almost like fun and being on the playground. I would love to be out here playing with everybody, but it’s just not happening for me. This is the realest thing that’s coming right now. Not to say that I would never do it again, but those are not the things that are coming right now. And I have to present what’s given to me at the time."

Outkast's final studio album was 2006's 'Idlewild'. Since then, alongside his acting career, André 3000's output has been made up of occasional guest spots on other artists' tracks and two solo songs, Look Ma No Hands and Me&My (To Bury Your Parents).
