Sweet Pill Announce 'Starchild' EP With New Track Chewed Up

Thursday, 07 December 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

Sweet Pill have announced a new EP.

The Philadelphia band will release 'Starchild' via their new label home Hopeless Records on March 15. Having previously previewed it with the title track and opening number in September, they've now dropped a second single called Chewed Up, which leans more towards the punchy, poppier side of their emo sound. Singer Zayna Youssef commented:

"The EP 'Starchild' as a whole takes an introspective look at battling anxieties, your inner voice, and the world that always seems so against you.

"Where The Heart Is was written when I as well as Jayce, Ryan, Chris, and Sean were discovering life after college. We were existing in such a transitional time full of big changes.

"Personally, this EP is a reflection of where these changes have brought me: Over-worked and unsure of myself and what matters anymore.

"The song Starchild is an ode to selling myself short and not valuing my own self worth. I’m at a time in my life where I find myself “people pleasing” everyone but myself. Then I’m burdened with the pressure of letting everyone down. Ultimately, that leads to my own personal downfall."

Of the new track, she added: "Chewed Up follows Starchild and is musically much more in-your-face. Sort of like the intrusive thoughts that keep you up wide-eyed in bed at night. Different from the opening track, Chewed Up is a plea to say what I mean and to ask for what I want. To make that step in the direction of valuing my own self worth and pulling out of my personal downfall. The hard part is- when the moment comes, can you speak up?"

The group will support the EP with a headline spring US tour. Equipment will join them for all dates, with Have a Good Season, Zeta, Great Time, Taking Meds, and Broke Body opening select shows. Tickets are on sale now.

Sweet Pill released their album 'Where The Heart Is' in 2022.
