Craig David Announces Ninth Studio Album 'Commitment' With New Single Wake Up

Craig David will release his ninth studio album this summer.
The follow-up to 2022's '22' is titled 'Commitment' and will arrive through Believe on August 8. The Southampton artist created the record alongside a team of producers, including Mike Brainchild, Toddla T, Tre-Jean Marie, and Wretch 32.
The album also features collaborations with Jojo, Louisa Johnson, and Tiwa Savage, who appeared on the recently shared title track, and includes the previously unveiled singles In Your Hands and SOS. David said:
"'Commitment’ is everything to me now that ‘Born To Do It’ was to me as a teen. That’s what it feels to me, that’s what it means to me. And I hope that when people listen to it they have that same feeling all over again. Making music still turns me into that giggly, excited, little kid who wants to feel the magic of it all – but with 25 years of experience."
As a further preview, the singer has shared the opening track, Wake Up, which sees him bolster his signature R&B sound with UK garage beats. He explained: "Wake Up for me is my way of not only respecting my garage roots, but also keeping alive the cultural foundation of the sound from where it all started.
"The lyric reinforces literally and metaphorically the essence of making sure we don’t fall asleep on the importance of nurturing something we care about. Especially if we don’t want to end up losing it by taking it for granted. This echoes how I feel about the unique sound of UK Garage and the importance of nurturing it for generations to come around the world.
"I felt super inspired mixing in the vibes of Indo - R U Sleeping on this one, just like me playing out a TS5 garage set. The whole vibe ignited some core memories for me that not only had me in my feels, but inspired me to grab the mic and spit bars again. Just like when I was on pirate radio MC’ing back in the days."
Fresh from appearing with Usher at his London stop on the Past, Present, Future Tour, David has scheduled some TS5 in-store release shows in Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and London for August. Head here for details. Tickets go on sale on April 18.
He also has several outdoor shows scheduled for the summer, including TS5 gigs at Southampton's Guildhall Square on June 21, and Colchester Castle Park on August 16, as part of the venue's summer series. The run also includes appearances at Tunes In The Park in Saltash and Victorious Festival in Portsmouth. Tickets for those dates are on sale now.
