The Beaches - No Hard Feelings (Album Review)

Friday, 05 September 2025 Written by Laura Mills

The Beaches are an impressive, underrated band. Their third album ‘No Hard Feelings’ is an assured follow up to ‘Blame My Ex’, which catapulted them up festival bills and set up a long period of touring. It packs plenty of pop punch and should secure them some of the credit they deserve.

Can I Call You In The Morning? is a perfect opener, its explosive, confident instrumental underpinning questioning lyrics. “Whatever you’re thinking, Jordan, just don’t,” sings bassist-vocalist Jordan Miller. The storytelling aspect of the writing is excellent and resonant: who hasn’t regretted a late night call?

Immediately, it feels like the band have stepped things up a notch, their new direction delivered with effortless polish, and Did I Say Too Much? rams that home. Irresistible from the first chord, it feels like the soundtrack to the opening sequence of a classic romcom.

Its run-on sentences sound relentless, packed with passion and emotion: “Even in the break up, you can't make your mind up / Took the extra measure, gave me back my sweater / Soaked in your perfume / What the fuck is wrong with you?”

Elsewhere, the youthful, invigorating Last Girls At The Party will get you hyped, while Sorry for Your Loss is a petty, passive aggressive goodbye delivered over timeless riffs. Takes One To Know One is immaculate — cleverly constructed with its duetting vocals simply dreamy. The Beaches have delivered again. Time to start paying attention.
