Melanie C has shared another track from her upcoming ninth studio album.
Propelled by bright synths and upbeat, club-ready energy, What Could Possibly Go Wrong? marks the second preview of 'Sweat', following the release of the title track last October and its subsequent Guz remix earlier this month. Melanie C said:
"What Could Possibly Go Wrong? is the second single from my upcoming album, written and recorded in Stockholm with the brilliant Klas Åhlund and Nea gives this track that distinctive Swedish sound. We had a lot of fun working on this song and discussing the light and shade of music and life. It's a tongue in cheek look on taking risks and trusting yourself to take that leap anyway. I think a lot of people will relate!"
Described as her most euphoric work yet, 'Sweat' was recorded between London, Stockholm and Los Angeles and celebrates joy, movement and togetherness while blending the Spice Girl turned solo artist's pop roots with her more recent work as a DJ.
"I've done a lot of soul-searching," she revealed. "Now I just want to have some fun and get people dancing again."
"When we were young every weekend we’d go out dancing all night long," she continued. "In a room of friendly strangers we found the place where we belong.
"There are so many horrific things going on in the world, when you make pop and dance music, it can seem almost churlish. But music is what gets me through tough moments. I’m really happy I am bringing out a joyful record at a very dark time."
The follow-up to her 2020 self-titled LP arrives on May 1 via Virgin Music Group, alongside a series of new in-store and out-store shows, including an intimate performance at London's Union Chapel on April 30 and a date in Berlin on May 15. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (January 30).
She'll also play some DJ dates in Australia and Europe, Warrington's Neighbourhood Weekender in May, and a previously scheduled show at London's O2 Academy Brixton on October 23. Tickets for that are already on sale.
