They Might Be Giants have announced their first album in four years.

The Brooklyn alt-rock band will release 'The World Is To Dig', the follow-up to 2021's Grammy-nominated 'BOOK', on April 17.

The album's 18 tracks showcase their signature clever lyricism and inventive ideas, with the lead single Wu-Tan, a melodic power-pop track looking at how the legendary hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan changed a fan's life. Songwriter John Linnell explained:

"Many years ago, we discussed the idea of celebrating an artist or a style of music, but in the form of a completely unrelated genre of music. The original idea was a Tin Pan Alley-style song extolling the greatness of heavy metal. ‘Wu-Tang’ was written more or less along those lines, partly inspired by their TV biopic, but void of any musical reference to the great hip-hop collective. Are we fans? Sure! Would we ever attempt to emulate their sound? Not publicly."

They Might Be Giants will tour the US in spring with The Bigger Show Tour, playing multiple nights in cities across the East Coast and Midwest. Each show will be unique, featuring an eight-piece band with a horn section, with They Might Be Giants performing a different album from their discography in the first set, followed by a second set of hits and deep cuts. Tickets are on sale now.

Last month, They Might Be Giants returned with their 'Eyeball' EP, featuring the title track and its remix alongside The Glamour of Roc and the instrumental Peggy Guggenheim.
