The Molotovs will release their sophomore album next spring.
Less than a year since their debut, 'Wasted On Youth', which reached number three on the Official UK Albums Chart, London siblings Mathew and Issey Cartlidge have revealed that 'Welcome To Urbia' will arrive on April 9 via Marshall Records.
Alongside the news, the pair have released the record's first single, Urbia, which sees them explore a darker, driving Brit rock sound alongside a huge, hooky chrous. It was recorded at London's famous Konk Studios, founded by The Kinks, and produced by Tony Hoffer, whose previous credits include Beck, The Kooks, M83 and Belle and Sebastian. Matt said:
"When I wrote it, it just immediately felt like something different and was steering in the direction that I wanted to go for this next album. I really wanted to shake it up.
"My influences have also broadened, the more we played. When we went into the studio, I’d only recently written it so it was all pretty fresh - it’s got a real energy."
Issy added: "It really blossoms. It's quite moody and driving, quite industrial, and then you get to the chorus that kind of opens up. It's sweet."
The Molotovs kicked off their Welcome To Urbia Tour with a show in Cardiff last night (September 3) and will perform in Nottingham tonight, with dates scheduled through to early next month. They'll also play shows in France and support Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter in North America and Razorlight in the UK and Ireland this autumn and winter. Tickets are on sale now.
Earlier this week, they were announced for next year's Neighbourhood Weekend, which returns to Victoria Park in Warrington, Cheshire over the spring bank holiday weekend, with headliners Paul Heaton with special guest vocalist Rianne Downey, Reytons and Courteeners.
