K.Flay, aka Kristine Meredith Flaherty, has returned with the new single Ants.
Serving up a raw, stripped back sound reminiscent of Nine In Nails and early Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with heavy guitar tones, the alt-rock track marks the Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter and performer's first new music since 2023's 'MONO', her first album since going deaf in her right ear. The now fully independent artist explained:
"Ants is about the destructive nature of power. It's an expression of the disillusionment I feel when I look out at the world right now, when I see what corporations and governments and billionaires are doing. It's also an expression of my own sense of culpability. Because I wear boots. I kill ants. So there are levels to this power, this loss. And as humans, we all have to decide -- whether consciously or not -- how much we're willing to destroy.''
Having previously collaborated with everyone from Tom Morello to Travis Barker, FIDLAR to PVRIS, Vic Fuentes, The Prodigy and more, K.Flay's next gig is supporting Evanescence alongside Poppy in the UK this week, and at a US show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on October 26. She'll also headline a rare and intimate, now sold out, show at London's Barfly on September 14, with more new music expected before the end of the year.
In May, K.Flay teamed up with producer Jason Suwito for 'SPECIAL FEELINGS', the first album released under their collaborative moniker 2XT.
