Hi there! Welcome to the latest stacked edition of Stereoboard’s monthly gig guide, where we cast an autumnal eye over the biggest shows coming to the UK in the next few weeks thanks to data pulled from our Hottest 100 tickets list, which determines who’s hot and who’s even hotter by comparing face value ticket prices from more than 50 agents and resellers over a 24 hour period.
Who are September’s headline acts?
We’re standing on the doorstep of one of the year’s biggest tours. Westlife 25: The Anniversary World Tour will find the Irish boyband icons celebrating a quarter of a century in the game, bringing a cavalcade of smooth, emotionally uplifting hits to arenas across the globe. They’re starting big, with 13 shows at Dublin’s 3Arena between September 10 and 26, and staying big when the run crosses over to the UK, with dates (more often than not multi-night stands) to follow in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, London, Brighton, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester and Belfast, where they’ll land at the SSE Arena for seven gigs. Massive.
Hot on the heels of his new record ‘Dinner Party’, Niall Horan is also on the road, with the former One Directioner playing two nights at the O2 Arena in London along with stops in Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and Sheffield. It will also be intriguing to see how Spiritbox take to the big leagues, with the US metallers following up their hit album ‘Tsunami Sea’ with arena shows in Glasgow, Nottingham, Manchester, Cardiff and London, alongside Jinjer and Dying Wish. The safe money is on them smashing it, with their new song Mourning showing plenty of rafter-shaking crossover potential to add to their already imposingly heavy arsenal.
Who’s ruling the Hottest 100 Tickets list?
It’s been a good few weeks for rock icons Bon Jovi at the top of the charts, with Sam Smith also riding high following the unveiling of their critically-acclaimed album ‘Hazel Eyes’. They’re currently in the middle of a London run at the Coliseum, while Evanescence’s latest arena tour has also been doing numbers among those with a taste for the gothic. A nod, too, for the legendary Céline Dion, whose comeback residency in Paris, at the stunning Plenitude Arena, formerly known as La Défense Arena, continues to be a big draw. The Canadian vocalist is preparing to return to live performances several years after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in 2022.
That’s a lot of star wattage but the biggest new face, perhaps unsurprisingly, is Hayley Williams, who stirred up some crazy pre-sale demand for a run of UK dates as part of The Hayley Williams Show, a tour that will take the Paramore singer to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, Cardiff’s Utilita Arena and London’s Alexandra Palace next summer, with a couple of nights supporting Fontaines D.C. at Slane Castle in the mix as well. The Dublin post-punks, meanwhile, are also sitting pretty in the top 10, with their autumn arena tour set to be followed next summer by some colossal outdoor shows, including further stops at Cardiff’s Blackweir Fields, Newcastle’s St. James’ Park, Manchester's Heaton Park, Glasgow Green and London Stadium. Williams is on the road following the unveiling of her third solo LP ‘Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party’ last summer, while Fontaines are a month or so out from the arrival of their fifth album, ‘Dopamine Chamber’.
Who’s on the rise?
It’s been a great few weeks for Sombr, whose UK and European You Are The Reason Tour feels like a bit of a breakout moment. With new material being delivered in a slow drip, leading towards a potential follow up to 2025’s ‘I Barely Know Her’, we can expect the New Yorker to hang around on the charts for the foreseeable future as he builds towards this run, which includes five nights at the O2 Arena in London along with outdoor shows at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park, Dublin’s Malahide Castle and Belfast’s Ormeau Park. A hat tip, too, to Adéla, who’s been adding extra shows to her Red Bottoms Tour at quite a clip. It now comprises upgraded stops at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester and the O2 Academy Glasgow, with two nights apiece inked in at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre and the O2 Academy Brixton in London.
Grassroots heroes
Everyone’s favourite ‘Celtic jangle boyband’ The Tubs have a string of autumn shows in the diary to coincide with the release of ‘Hard Life’, their wonderful new album. The band, who also released arguably the best Metallica cover of all time a few months ago, will play clubs in Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, London, Brighton, Southampton and Norwich, kicking off on September 21 and running through to the start of October.
