Why Horses? Announce Second EP 'These Hands' With New Single Cat's Cradle

Why Horses? have shared plans for their second EP.
Newly expanded to a quintet, the Cardiff art-rock band will release 'These Hands' through Brace Yourself Records on October 16. According to guitarist-singer Gabriel Austin Lester, the four-track project looks at “trying to understand the world around you through the lens of your experiences. Hence the title: you use your hands to touch things, you shake people’s hands, you type and text with your hands. They’re a bridge between yourself and the world."
It'll include the band's August single, Yr Big Day, alongside the newly released Cat's Cradle, a psychedelic track that blends jungle-inspired drums and post-punk basslines with violin and introspective lyrics. Lester explained: "At its core, ‘Cat’s Cradle’ is about rejecting absurdism. I wrote it after reading Cat’s Cradle by Vonnegut which explores lots of absurdist ideas. I loved the book but I’ve always hated absurdism because being brought up Christian, I’ve always believed that everything has a purpose. I've also struggled a lot with this belief though, which the lyrics also explore in some way. My vocal delivery gives the perception that I'm descending into a type of madness. This is purposeful and something Zein (Checri, producer) and I worked on together in the studio."
Why Horses?, completed by guitarist Dilibe Aneke, violinist William Dadswell, bassist Les Davies and drummer Joel Hadi Checri, will tour the UK and Europe following the EP's release, including shows in Cardiff and London, as well as festival appearances in France and Austria. Head here for details.
'These Hands' follows the band's debut EP, 2025’s Yeah, Hi?, and this spring's Ground/Jain split single with Spirited Followers, both released through tastemaker imprint BWGiBWGAN.
