BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ has kicked off her next chapter with the release of a new single.
Titled new trick, the upbeat track marks a shift away from the emotional, melancholic sound of her 2024 debut solo album, 'rosie', blending alt-pop with early-2000s pop-rock influences, and arrives alongside a video directed by Dave Meyers, known for his work with Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Ariana Grande. The clip was shot entirely on the new iPhone 18 Pro as part of Apple's latest ‘Shot on iPhone’ campaign.
In an interview last week with VOGUE, ROSÉ described the song as “possibly the cutest thing [she and songwriter Amy Allen] have ever made together" while providing an update on the follow-up to 'rosie', revealing that she has been writing and recording new music for a while.
"I’ve been working on new music for quite some time now, and I’m still in the process of finding the perfect fine line between the world I want to create, how much of that expresses who I am today, and who I, personally and as a musician, am evolving into. I’m excited to see where this journey continues to take me, what sort of sound resonates [with] me, and to introduce a new era of my music next year."
Apple's long-running 'Shot on iPhone campaign has previously featured music videos including The Weeknd's Dancing in the Flames, Olivia Rodrigo's Get Him Back! and Lady Gaga's Stupid Love.
