Alkaline Trio Return To British Shores This Summer For UK Tour & Tickets

American punk rockers Alkaline Trio have announced that they will be touring the UK during May and early June this year.

The US legends have confirmed only eight venues as part of their UK tour so far, but more dates are expected to be added to the list soon. The band will be touring in support of their new, 7th studio album, ‘This Addiction’, which was released in February earlier this year.

Formed in Chicago Illinois in 1997, the band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Skiba, bass player and vocalist Dan Andriano and drummer Derek Grant. Their fast, grungey, punk rock uses the melodic charms of the best pop punk music and mixes it with intelligent and unflinching lyrics. A strange combination you might think but one that seems to have worked and won the Alkaline Trio a loyal following.

The band’s frontman, Matt Skiba, had this to say about the reasoning behind the new album’s title, “It is the first song on the record and the title of our new album. The song takes heroin addiction as a metaphor for love. The whole record is really personal, all three of us have been through quite a bit since our last album (2008's Agony & Irony) and it is all expressed through this, all the songs are about the relationships we've been in and so the record has a constant theme."

The new album has been the band's most successful, debuting on the US Billboard 200 at Number 11, it is the highest the band has ever charted to date.

Alkaline Trio will play the following UK dates:

May 2010

21st O2 Academy, Birmingham
23rd Manchester Academy
24th O2 ABC Glasgow
25th O2 Academy, Newcastle
26th O2 Academy, Bristol
28th Pyramids Centre, Portsmouth

June 2010

1st Roundhouse, London
2nd Rock City, Nottingham

Tickets are available from 9am on Friday 12th March priced from £16.50.

Photo: Emily Dubin There comes a point in the lives of many bands when it seems like the easiest thing to do is stop. They won’t flame out in a way that’ll eventually get a chapter named after them in an oral history, or sign on for an indefinite farewell tour laced with pyro and recrimination. They’ll just stop, as though the whole endeavour simply ate itself.
