Devin Townsend is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician hailing from New Westminster, British Columbia. Born in 1972, he is recognised as one of the metal's hardest-working and most accomplished figures, known as the founding member and frontman of Strapping Young Lad as well as his solo work.
As a solo act, Townsend has released a number of different records and albums under various different aliases, though his main output has been via the Devin Townsend Band, which later disbanded and was followed by the Devin Townsend Project. His latest record, 'Z²', a double-album which is the second to feature his extra-terrestrial concept Ziltoid, hit shelves in October 2014. After a stripped-back, acoustic tour of the UK in spring 2019 supporting new album, 'Empath' which dropped in March, Townsend is now set to tour around Australia, Europe and the UK again later in the year, before heading around the US in 2020.
