Dianne Reeves is a multi-Grammy Award-winning Jazz musician born from Detroit, Michigan.
Raised from a young age in Denver, Colorado, Reeves started singing and playing piano in 1971. She was a member of her high-school band, and while performing at a Chicago convention she was noticed by trumpeter Clark Terry, who invited her to sing with him. Reeves moved to Los Angeles, where she sang and recorded with Stanley Turrentine, Lenny White, and Billy Childs. She went on to record with the band Caldera, before founding the group Night Flight with Billy Childs, with whom she would collaborate again in the 1990s. Following a move to New York City, she toured from 1983 to 1986 with Harry Belafonte. In 1987, she penned a deal with Blue Note and released her Grammy Award-nominated eponymous album, featuring Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and Tony Williams. She has released a string of records, the latest being 2014's 'Beautiful Life', which scooped a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Reeves has won five Grammy Awards in total.
