HIM are a Finnish rock band from Helsinki, consisting of original members, frontman Villie Valo, guitarist Mikko ‘Linde’ Lindström, and bassist Mikko ‘Migé’ Paananen, alongside keyboard player Janne ‘Burton’ Puurtinen and Jukka ‘Kosmo’ Kröger on drums.
Formed in 1991, the band released their debut album, ‘Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666’, in 1997, which was followed by ‘Razorblade Romance’, in 2000, ‘Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights’, in 2001 and ‘Love Metal’, in 2003. It wasn’t until their fifth record, ‘Dark Light’, released in 2005, that the gained international fame, hitting #18 in the Billboard Hot 200. The band’s sixth release, ‘Venus Doom’, continued their success in the USA, reaching #12 in the chart, as did ‘Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice’, which came out in 2010. The band released their latest release, ‘Tears on Tape’, in 2013.
The band have headlined their own shows and tours across North America and Europe, including the UK, where they played an exclusive UK show at Nottingham’s Rock City, in celebration of the venue’s 35th birthday in 2015.
HIM have announced UK dates in December as part of their farewell tour, which also reaches Europe and the US. Catch them live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.
I was luck enough to see HIM a few years ago at House of Blues in Orlando. It was an amazing show. Ville is so humble and sang his heart out. I am a forever him. The first time i heard Ville sing my heart smiled. I listen to HIM everyday. I have a little obsession :). His voice soothes my soul. And his music has helped me through some really hard times. Thank you Ville and your band for your amazing music
HIM are one of my all time favourite live bands and once again they did not disappoint. The setlist was based on fan favorites Right Here In My Arms, Your Sweet Six Six Six and Soul On Fire, as well as material from the new album Tears On Tape. Energetic and enthusiastic as always, although Valo seems his usual reserved self, HIM come across as a band truly happy to be playing. Genuinely humbled. The crowd were also enthusiastic but not obnoxious. Great show.
What can I say about HIM that hasnt been said before... they were absolutely superb. A greatest hits set delivered flawlessly, including some tracks from their new album Tears on Tape. HIM are one of those bands that need to be seen live, and I'm lucky enough to have seen them on a few occasions, each time being magnificent. Also, its good to see Ville Valo interacting with the crowd more, on previous shows he has often just stood there singing, with very little involvement with the audience. He seems much more engaging now. Great atmosphere.
The set list tonight was a HIM fans wet dream. Buried Alive By Love, Wings Of A Butterfly, Right Here In My Arms, they're all hereÂ. Some bands would avoid building their set list like this, opting to save their 'big guns' until the end, but HIM have quality tunes in abundance.
New material from latest album 'Tears On Tape' is received just as well as their older tracks. All executed with utmost professionalism. The gig took place on Halloween too, which provided the perfect setting for such a show!
