Idlewild is a Scottish indie rock band from Edinburgh, consisting of frontman Roddy Woomble, alongside Rod Jones, Colin Newton, Andrew Mitchell and Luciano Rossi.
Formed in 1995, Idlewild started their career with a gig in Edinburgh’s Subway Club back in 1996, and just over a year later, their debut single, Queen of the Troubled Teens, would find its way on to shelves and radio. The band released their debut album, ‘Hope Is Important’ in 1998, which was followed by ‘100 Broken Windows’, in 2000. It wasn’t until the release of ‘The Remote Part’, in 2002, that the band reached mainstream success, with the album reaching #3 in the UK Albums Chart, and the single You Held the World in Your Arms hitting #9 in the UK Singles Chart. ‘Warnings/Promises’ was released in 2005, and reached #9 in the chart, ‘Make Another World’, came out in 2007, and hit #24, and ‘Post Electric Blues’, hit the shelves in 2009, before the band went on hiatus the following year. The band returned in 2013, and released the album, ‘Everything Ever Written’, in 2015.
After 15th anniversary celebrations of ‘The Remote Part’ in winter 2017, the band heading back to the studio to work on the follow up to ‘Everything Ever Written’.
