Rebecca Black Looking For Court Case Against 'Friday' Producers

In the latest twist in music’s strangest tale of recent months, Rebecca Black is now considering legal action against Ark Music, the producers of her viral sensation, ‘Friday’.

According to Rolling Stone, the young singer has recruited her lawyers, claiming that the song’s producers defied her copyright ownership to release the track as a ringtone without her consent. Black is also alleging that Ark Music are yet to deliver the master tapes of the track, which were lawfully hers under the initial $4,000 financial agreement for recording.

The letter, which was written by attorney Brian Schall on behalf of Rebecca Black and her mother Georgina Marquez Kelly, claims that Black is unhappy with being listed as an exclusive Ark Recording artist on the company’s website. It also states that Black is unhappy with the company exploiting her likeness and her song on YouTube, iTunes and Amazon.

Speaking about the claims, Ark founder Patrice Wilson claimed that he had already straightened the issue out with Black and her mother. He said: "I have met with Rebecca Black's mom and everything is fine. She will get the masters and the song. They can have it all."

He went on to claim that Black has now signed a deal with another record company, saying: "She's not our exclusive artist. Once an artist meets with us and once they blow up, they have a choice to retain us or move on if they can. Rebecca is now signed with someone else."

Meanwhile, Rebecca Black’s song ‘Friday’ was covered by Stephen Colbert, Taylor Hicks and The Roots in a bizarre live performance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Friday (April 1st). You can view the performance below:
