Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson Reveals He Turned Down Offer To Star On BBC Show 'The Voice'

Ricky Wilson, frontman of Leeds-based indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs, has revealed how he turned down the chance to be on new BBC singing show The Voice – simply because ‘it didn’t feel right’.

The show is a new format of singing contest and features a talented judge’s panel which includes famous artists like Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, will.i.am, and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue. But, the judge’s line-up may have looked a little different had Wilson not turned down an offer from BBC officials to appear on the show – something which Wilson admits ‘would have shifted us a lot of records.'

Wilson told The Daily Star: “I had an email conversation with the BBC about it, but it just didn’t feel right. The reason to say yes to the offer is obvious – those huge viewing figures would have shifted us a lot of records. The musical landscape has changed a lot since our first single in 2004, and the way of the world now is if you’re on one of those big TV shows, you sell records. But if you’ve got that one bit of doubt, you should listen to that more than the 99% of you that's screaming: 'Do it'.”

You can catch Kaiser Chiefs at Reading and Leeds Festival this August 24th-26th. If you need tickets, check the links below.
