The Black Keys 'Don't Really Understand' How They Found Success

American rock duo The Black Keys have spoken out about their success, telling fans that they 'don't really understand how it happened'!

The Ohio-based band have found a lot of success in the past couple of years, and after winning a handful of Grammys in their past, they’ve now received a mammoth five nominations for this year’s ceremony. Speaking to WXRT, drummer Patrick Carney has opened up about their success, how hard they’ve worked for it, and how to deal with it.

“It’s been constant since the beginning for the both of us – the first time you play to 100 people, the first time you play to 500, first time you play a festival, first time you get to go overseas,” Carney explained. “It just so happens that in the last two or so years, a lot of things that were never even on our radar happened, like getting gold and platinum records, winning Grammys, selling out MSG [Madison Square Garden], headlining festivals.

“All that stuff, we never even thought was possible. When it happens, it’s really kind of surreal. We’re really grateful that it’s happened, but we don’t really understand how it happened or why it happened.”

Carney added finally: “We’ve definitely worked hard, but a lot of bands have worked just as hard. You just have to feel really lucky. Never feel like you’re entitled to it – because then you just sort of turn into a prick.”

The band are now currently hard at work on what will be their eighth studio album, and they hope to complete it by March - meaning it will almost certainly see a release before the end of the year. Stay with Stereoboard to stay up-to-date on the band and their progress.
