Tony Iommi And Brian May To Create 'Riff Album'

We have some good news for all of you air-guitar maniacs and axe-wielding metalheads out there - Queen legend Brian May will apparently be putting together a ‘riff album’ alongside Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi!

The pair of guitarists are known for creating some of rock’s most recognisable riffs, and album featuring some created by the both of them can only result in a CD full of face-melting melodies and impossibly awesome sequences. And according to an interview with Kerrang!, it seems such an album is on the way.

Sabbath’s Iommi asked May: “When are we going to get to work on that album of riffs together? You know what I'm talking about...”

As readers hearts begin to race, May replied: “Yes, I do know what he's talking about and I'm very, very keen. The record he's talking about was supposed to be a secret but I guess he's blown it now!”

May goes on to explain that the idea for the album came when he visited Iommi’s studio, and stumbled upon a goldmine of material that had been left unused.

May says: “I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them. The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!”

Nothing else about the potential album is known as of yet, so a release date - if it even sees a release - is currently unknown. However, if you’re a fan of either of the stars, you’re in luck - Tony Iommi and Black Sabbath are gearing up for the release of their brand new album ‘13’, while Brian May has announced a UK tour alongside Kerry Ellis. Brian May and Kerry Ellis - Golden Days (Album Review)

You may think that combining the genres of musical theatre and rock ‘n’ roll will result in a listening experience that’s about as palatable as a marmite sandwich laced with ball bearings. But when the hard rocker in question is Queen’s Brian May, a man whose band aren’t exactly known for subtlety or restraint, it’s a much more plausible marriage that, at its best, offers a bombastic buffet of pure cheesy goodness.
