Shawn Carter - or, as you may know him better, Jay-Z - is an American rapper and record producer, and one half of duo Watch the Throne alongside Kanye West. After starting off rapping with friends, battling, and selling CDs out of his car, he burst onto the scene in 1996 with debut album 'Reasonable Doubt', hitting #23 in the Billboard 200.

That record paved the way for his hugely successful career. Since then, he's gone on to become one of - if not THE - most successful man in rap music, selling over 50 million albums and records worldwide and achieving an incredible feat in having each of his 14 albums (11 solo, 3 collaborative) certified as platinum.

It was the speed at which Jay-Z found himself at the top of the game which has cemented his place as one of the best (or, as he may say, 'the greatest!) - he was a living legend a short way into his career, and fans and rap critics alike still say the same thing to this day. And years of performing under his belt too, he's learned how to control the masses he's assembled like no other.

2013 saw his 12th record - the aptly-titled 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' - hitting shelves, and saw him continuing his tradition of reaching platinum once again. This time, he managed the incredible feat of it turning platinum BEFORE its release, solely through pre-orders. His latest, '4:44', dropped in June 2017, which again hit #2 and was supported with a tour.
