Lynyrd Skynyrd are an American rock band hailing from Jacksonville, Florida. Formed in 1966, the band currently consists of founding member Gary Rossington alongside Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Michael Cartellone, Mark Matejka, Peter Keys, and Johnny Colt.
Best known for pioneering and glamourising the Southern rock genre almost single handedly, Lynyrd Skynyrd are one of those bands that will remain in music history for ever. Anyone who says they’ve never heard the song ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ at least once in their life is definitely lying, whilst their track ‘Free Bird’ is known as ‘the most requested song in rock history’.
After a tragic plane crash took the lives of three of the main band-members in 1977, the band’s ever-rising domination came to an abrupt halt, and they remained stagnant for ten years - before a slightly-altered Lynyrd Skynyrd returned to continue its legacy for years to come.
Lynyrd Skynyrd had most recently released the record, ‘Last of a Dyin' Breed’, which hit Top 15 upon release back in 2012, and hav been touring in the years that followed. However, in 2018, Lynyrd Skynyrd announced that they'd be embarking on what would essentially be a Farewell Tour - though they've admitted it may take a few years to complete. It hits the UK in June 2019. Regardless, this is a tour a fan can't miss, so check below to find the current dates and tickets through Stereoboard!
