Michael Gira is an American singer and songwriter, best known a founding member of Swans.
Forming experimental rock band Swans in 1982, the band released several albums before disbanding in 1997. It was then that Gira released his first solo album, 'Drainland', and went on to form a new band, Angels of Light. He also experimented with soundscapes with the The Body Lovers / The Body Haters project, and continued to release solo material. He revived Swans in 2010.
