The Pixies are an American alt-rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, consisting of frontman Black Francis, guitarist Joey Santiago, drummer David Lovering and bass player Paz Lenchantin, who replaced Kim Deal.
Formed back in 1986, the band released their debut album, ’Surfer Rosa’, in 1988, but it wasn’t until their follow up album, ’Doolittle’, one year later, that the band hit the mainstream. Going on to become the band’s only platinum-selling album, ‘Doolittle’ saw them break into the charts for the first time, at #98 in the Billboard Hot 200, and a much higher #8 in the UK Album Chart. After releasing two more records; ‘Bossanova’ in 1990, and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ in 1991, the band split in 1993, after Francis faxed the other members telling them the band was over.
The band reformed in 2004, with Kim Deal leaving in 2013. They released the album, ‘Indie Cindy’ in 2014 and their sixth release, ‘Head Carrier’, came out in September 2016.
In 2018, Pixies will celebrate 30 years of 'Come On Pilgrim...' and 'Surfer Rosa' with a residency at London's Roundhouse, and a trio of shows at Brooklyn Steel. Catch them live by checking out the tour dates and ticket information on Stereoboard below.
