Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in New Orleans by tuba player Allan Jaffe in the early 1960s. The band derives its name from Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. In 2005, the Hall's doors were closed for a period of time due to Hurricane Katrina, but the band continued to tour.
During their time, the band have released over twenty albums to date including studio recordings and live albums. Their debut was 1964's 'Sweet Emma Barrett and Her Preservation Hall Jazz Band', right the way through to 2017's 'So It Is'. Alongside touring on both side of the Atlantic, the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. Now, the band have confirmed a headline performance at London's Islington Assembly Hall in April 2018.
