Roy Ayers is a funk, soul and jazz composer from Los Angeles, California.
In 1966, having dropped out of college, he joined Herbie Mann's band before starting his own in the 1970s. Now a key figure in the acid jazz movement, he has been dubbed by many as "The Godfather of Neo Soul", and has put out countless albums as both a lead and sideman. Perhaps best known for his signature compositions Everybody Loves The Sunshine and Searchin', he is also famous for having more of his hits sampled by rappers than any other artist. He has collaborated with a multitude artists throughout his career, from Erykah Badu to Tyler The Creator. Roy Ayers will bring his Farewell Tour to London, Manchester and Bristol in May 2023.
