System of a Down are an Armenian-American alternative metal band based in Glendale, California, consisting of Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan.
Formed in 1994, the band released their self-titled debut album in 1998, which was followed by ‘Toxicity’, in 2001, ‘Steal This Album!’ in 2002 and both ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize’ in 2005, before they went on hiatus in 2006. The band returned in 2011 with a string of live European shows, as well as an appearance at the UK's Download Festival. System of a Down will join Slipknot in headlining the second edition of the one-day Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April 2024. They'll also join Deftones for a standalone co-headline concert in California on August 17, marking the first after-dark show at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
