The Specials are a British 2 Tone ska band from Coventry, consisting of longtime members songwriter and vocalist Terry Hall, vocalist and rhythm guitar player Lynval Golding, and bass player Horace Panter.
Formed in 1977, the band helped pioneer the British ska sound of the late 1970s and early 1980s. They racked up seven consecutive UK Top Ten singles, between 1979 and 1981, including Gangsters, A Message to You, Rudy, Rat Race, Stereotype, Do Nothing, alongside Ghost Town and Too Much Too Young which both reached #1, before splitting in 1984.
The Specials returned in 1996 to release a handful of records, which were less commercially successful, but having already attained a cult following the band continued to tour. They once again called it a day in 2001, before reforming again in 2008 to mark The Specials 30th Anniversary.
The ska legends will release ‘Encore’, their first new music for 37 years, on February 1. The date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the formation of the band and also the Two-Tone label, as well as marking 10 years since they reformed. They'll follow up the arrival of their new album with a huge UK tour in spring 2019. Catch them live by checking out the tour dates and ticket information below on Stereoboard.

I first had that album when I was about eleven, in 1980. I bought it off a friend in school for a pound. Couldn't wait to get home and play it. When I heard nite klub I could imagine I was there. Brilliant! When I seen The Specials in Belfast when I hit the big 43. I couldn't believe I was watching Terry Hall. I had a big crush on him. The concert was excellent. The atmosphere was just full of great humour. And I was transported back in time. Thank you for reforming. Long may it last. Good luck.xx
