Wintersun are a Finnish folk metal outfit from Helsinki that are signed to Nuclear Blast. Formed by guitarist Jari Mäenpää as a side project to the world-famous Ensiferum in 2003, he recruited Kai Hahto, Teemu Mäntysaari, and Jukka Koskinen - and Mäenpää ended up leaving Ensiferum in favour of Wintersun.
Their eponymous debut album hit shelves in 2004, and helped them pick up a strong and loyal fanbase, who were forced to wait until 2012 before the release of second album ‘Time I’. Though there has been talk of second chapter of 'Time' for years, Wintersun would go on to deliver a brand new album - unrelated to 'Time' - in July 2017, in the form of 'The Forest Seasons'.
