Young Knives are an English indie-rock outfit hailing from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. Named after 'young knaves' — a misunderstood quote they found in a book — the band formed in 1998, having previously been known as Simple Pastoral Existence. They changed their name after finding interest from labels who heard their early demos, and went on to break into the mainstream in 2002.
Though they released an eponymous mini-album that year, the band's first full-length record 'Voices of Animals and Men' didn't hit shelves until 2006. It earned them a nomination for the Mercury Prize the following year, after hitting #21 in the UK. They went on to put out 'Sick Octave' in 2013 and 'Barbarians' in 2020.
