DJ Tiesto has become the victim of the latest Internet death hoax.
Reports that emerged this morning suggested that the Dutch DJ and record producer had died in a fatal car crash on the Interstate 80 highway in California. The rumour spread like a nasty virus within hours, eventually becoming a trending topic on social networking website Twitter.com for the term "Tiesto died".
However thankfully the reports are false, created using a news generation website. The exact same reports declaring Tiesto had died in a car crash spread around the Internet in September 2006. The superstar DJ is alive and well, working in Marbella, celebrating his country's 3-2 World Cup victory over Uruguay last night.
Posting on his official Twitter page, Tiesto said: "It's nice to read that people care about my life. Thank you for all the support. It's good to be alive and to get so much love from You xx".
In a separate statement he added: "I don't know where these stories come from, but I'm very much alive and well and looking forward to the rest of my tour."
Tiesto - real name Tijs Michiel Verwest - has released four studio albums during his 15-year career, the last being 2009's 'Kaleidoscope'.
Tiesto will perform at London's Victoria Park with Pendulum this summer, on Friday July 30th 2010. Tickets are onsale now.
