T In The Park 2010 Hailed As Success

T in the Park festival, which took place last weekend, has been hailed as a thorough success. Despite some appalling weather conditions over the three days of music, the heavy rain didn’t dampen the spirits of any festival goers.

Three days of great music took place for 85,000 fans that made the trip to Scotland’s biggest and best three day live music bash. With headliners including Muse, Eminem and Kasabian, the frequent Saturday rainfall didn’t spoil the party atmosphere with many revelers indulging in some inventive and plain ridiculous fancy dress outfits in the spirit of this year’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme.

Friday saw the beefy guitar riffs and spectacular light show of Muse triumph on the main stage while dance stars Hot Chip, fighting an iffy tent sound system that saw them encounter a mid-set power cut, played out some of their most popular anthems such as ‘One Life Stand’, ‘Over and Over’ and ‘I Feel Better’.

Other acts from the Friday included a Faithless masterclass in how to deliver a commercial dance set to a crowd of thousands. Vocalist Maxi Jazz grabbing the attention of the press pit straight off by appearing onstage in a Highland dress, complete with bright blue kilt.

Pop’s current first-lady Florence Welch was also in attendance. Complete with her machine, the flame-haired warbler played a passionate performance on the Radio 1 stage while Queen of synth-pop La Roux unleashed a string of hits including ‘In For The Kill’ and ‘Bulletproof’ at King Tut’s tent.

Saturday saw grey-skies glower over the festival site, however a beaming performance from homeboys The Proclaimers swept away any bad feelings amongst the audience, followed up by some crazy skiffly dancing to the trombone sounds of Paulo Nutini’s set, which also included a quick blast of the Benny Hill theme tune!

We are Scientists tested the stamina of the crowd at the festival’s halfway point, as did a stomping set from The Coral who showcased some of their new material, letting their music do the talking and remaining very quiet while onstage.

With the UK waiting seven years for a visit from Eminem, the US rapper probably thought that another 30 minutes wouldn’t matter to the sodden crowd. Eventually appearing onstage with a rabble of his “homies”, the chart-topper played a stunning set, although rushing through a medley of his better-known tracks ‘My Name Is’, ‘The Real Slim Shady’ and ‘Without Me’, the rapper seemed to forget he had a curfew to abide by. Squeezing in an encore performance of ‘8 Mile’ feature track ‘Lose Yourself’, the rapper’s stylish set was an announcement to the UK that Shady was definitely back!

Following Saturday’s downpours, Sunday brought some brighter weather to the festival’s final day. Ellie Goulding drew a hefty crowd for her chilled performance, favored by those resting some tired legs. Current festival favorite Dizzee Rascal wound the crowd right back up again with an energetic show on the main stage, raising the spirits of a subdued crowd with some cheery sing-a-longs, the best being his chart-topping hit ‘Dance Wiv Me’.

Pete Doherty and Babyshambles made a surprise appearance over at the NME Stage and treated the crowd to one of their best performances in a long time - Doherty even made it to the stage on time too! Meanwhile the crowds were massing for Biffy Clyro’s set over at the Main Stage, whose set was squandered only slightly by Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto’s howl being carried by the winds from King Tut’s tent.

Performing like a headliner, hip-hop icon Jay-Z was on fine attacking form with the superstar appearing more like James Brown in certain parts of his set. While Leicestershire show-stoppers Kasabian took the reigns for a closing set of indie-rock anthems under a glorious sunset.

Hailed as success, T in the Park fought off the elements to deliver another spectacular three-day live music bash. Roll on next year!
