Pink Floyd Win Court Case Over Struggling EMI

In wake of Arcade Fire’s recent backlash against digital releases, Pink Floyd have won a court case against doomed music label EMI in a fight over control over the digital release of their tracks.

The business had originally tried to put the legendary band’s back catalogue up for sale through electronic retailers, instead of releasing albums only. They responded by taking the company to court, and have finally won the case over what is now a struggling company.

EMI was once at the forefront of British record labels, and is still considered one of the ‘big four’ of the recording industry. But in February this year they announced before-tax losses of £1.75billion, leading to rumours that owner Guy Hands will lose possession of the company before Christmas.

So it is reasonable to say that the loss of the Pink Floyd case couldn’t have arisen at a much worse point – and the failing record label still have the matter of yet another case with the legendary rock band about an apparent £10million debt to the group over royalties from 2002-2007.
