Red Hot Chili Peppers Based Their Career On Us Claim Gang of Four

English post-punk band Gang of Four have claimed that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have based their career on them.

Guitarist Andy Gill has spoken about the current music scene, suggesting some modern day bands have a very similar sound to them and even that the Chillis had copied some of their songs.

“In 2004 and all these bands suddenly came along that sounded like Gang of Four -- Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and the Rapture.” said Gill.

He then continued in a message that could potentially hurt the RHCP, saying "The Red Hot Chilli Peppers have obviously based their career on Gang of Four and they'd admit that. The guitar on their single 'Can't Stop' was directly from one of our early songs and when I heard it I thought, 'That's going a bit far.'"

As far as the band admitting it, he also alleged that when he met Flea, the Chilli’s bassist said to him “Andy, I just don't understand why you've never sued us.”

You must wonder what response this will conjure, as Gill’s intent is hard to determine.

Meanwhile, the Leeds based band also spoke about their new album. Gill said "Jon [King] and I thought it would be fun to enliven gigs by chucking some new tracks in there. So we tried writing a few new songs and slowly but surely it turned into the new album."
