B.O.B - I'll Be In The Sky (Single Review)

'I’ll Be In The Sky' is a very catchy and up beat song. B.O.B has once again showcased his rapping skills and produced another good R & B track. It’s not brilliant but it’s definitely not one to be overlooked.

This is undeniably a song through which B.O.B is celebrating his success. He’s not the first or last artist to have an almost autobiographical song like this. For example there is Tinie Tempah’s 'Written in the stars' and Chipmunk’s 'Champion' which are all conveying similar messages. However, like Tinie, B.O.B manages to reflect his success without bringing across an air of arrogance; which is something that underpins some elements of Chipmunk’s lyrics. B.O.B certainly comes across as very grateful and appreciative when describing his rise to fame: the classic story of the journey that takes you from being a no-one to a someone.

ImageThe song has a jazzy feel to it as a result of the piano backing and this does work well. The tune is really upbeat and you’ll probably end up tapping your feet without realising it. The chorus though, is disappointingly simple. There is just a number of “Yeah”s and the line “I’ll Be In The Sky.” Despite this, the chorus is the part of the song that will stay in your head for days.

Looking back at the previous songs released by B.O.B I think it’s safe to say this track is neither his best nor his worst. While it is an improvement on the song 'Magic' it fails to create the same impact as 'Airplanes'. 'I’ll Be In The Sky' also has less of the R & B feel to it when comaperd to 'Nothin On You'.

The concept of the song is not new: it’s something that mostly always works and almost every artist attempts at some stage in their career. B.O.B, too, has managed to pull it off. The song is annoyingly addictive and for this reason it’s undeniable that it will be successful but it just isn’t going to be a chart topper.
