AEG Set To Lose $17.5M Insurance Claim On Cancelled Michael Jackson London Concerts

Almost two years since his tragic death another issue has arisen following the death of Michael Jackson.

Lloyd’s of London, who had insured the comeback shows for the ‘king of pop’, sued AEG live and the singer’s company on Monday this week attempting to negate a policy which had been taken out to protect the promoters if the singer failed to complete his run of shows. The cost of cancelling the performances at London’s O2 arena was one of the largest debts against Jackson’s estate.

Lloyd’s claim that the promoter failed to provide the necessary medical information and details of the physician who is currently under investigation having been charged with Jackson’s death.

The problems began in April 2009 when Lloyd’s issued a policy covering non-appearance and cancellation which was issued under the alias of Mark Jones and, according to the lawsuit was to cover up to $17.5m. The suit then goes on to state that the promoter should have included further details on the stars medical history “including but not limited to, his apparent prescription drug use and/or drug addiction,”

AEG submitted their claim for compensation just days after Jackson was pronounced dead along with his death certificate. Lloyd’s claim that the required medical examination never happened so they are refusing to pay out. They also claim to have been requesting information about both Jackson himself and his physician, Dr Conrad Murray for over 18 months without success.

Murray himself will be tried later this year for involuntary manslaughter after it was claimed he administered a lethal dosage of Propofol to Jackson. Murray has pleaded not guilty with his attorneys stating that nothing the physician gave Jackson should have killed him.
