The Wanted Attended A “Songwriting Camp” For New Album

Wednesday, 13 July 2011 Written by James Conlon

The Wanted have revealed that they attended a “songwriting camp” in order to learn how to craft their own material for their upcoming album. The band, who will release their new single ‘Glad You Came’ later this week, went on to claim that the new LP will “surprise a lot of people”.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the band said: "It's great to be back and the upcoming new album will surprise a lot of people. The concept of a boyband might still be a bit too cringe-worthy for some people but we're hoping to transcend that by writing our own material."

The band went on to claim that they have been much more involved in the follow-up to their debut, self-titled LP, which reached Number Four in the UK charts last year. They said: "We got to write a lot more on the new record after visiting a special writing camp. It's a bit like fat camp but instead of losing weight you gain songwriting skills. They had three studios in one place and we would slope off into different groups over the course of seven days and learned how to collaborate with different people.”

They continued: “By the end of it our brains could not function because we were effectively doing a long poetry class every day. But the experience really helped us get better, sparked new ideas and made us want to tell stories."

The Wanted also discussed the material completed so far, describing ‘Glad You Came’ as a summer song. They said: "The current single was built for the summer and aimed at making people dance, but all the new tracks sound different. We kind of wanted to write a track for every season. One of them is really dark and definitely an autumn song."
