Kyuss and QOTSA Bassist Nick Oliveri Could Be Jailed for Upto 15 Years

Following the story we ran last month, former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri could be receiving up to 15 years in prison after the star held his girlfriend hostage with a loaded gun, as well as being found in possession of Class A/Schedule I drugs.

Oliveri, now a member of stoner-rockers Kyuss, had an epic standoff with armed police and S.W.A.T teams after an apparent domestic disturbance turned very ugly. The bass player refused to let his girlfriend (probably ex-girlfriend now, you’d think) leave his home and was surrounded by police for over two hours, before finally giving up and handing himself in.

But as famous as Oliveri is, he could be spending the next 15 years of his life behind bars after he was officially on the weekend with two counts of possession controlled drugs, two counts of possession controlled drugs AND a gun (yep, that’s two separate offences), and, obviously, resisting arrest. The charges do look likely to be proven too, after the musician was found with cocaine, crystal meth and a rifle on the day of his arrest.

His current band Kyuss! Forever have made no statement of the bassist’s future, but if he lands a 15 year sentence then a permanent replacement looks like the only option for the group, at least until the crazy man is freed. He is currently being replaced by old Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder for their European dates, and looks likely to stick with the band through their autumn tour dates. We’ll bring you more on the story of Nick Oliveri as it emerges.
