Lady Gaga Takes Out Injunction Against YouTube Star Lady Goo Goo

Lady Gaga has taken out an injunction against rising YouTube ‘star’ Lady Goo Goo, a character created by Moshi Monsters – and aimed at 6-12 year-olds.

ImageMoshi Monsters is a massive site for kids around the globe, and it boasts around 50million registered members worldwide. The site has 52 characters it knows as ‘Moshlings’ – with Lady Goo Goo being one of its most successful. The animated singer performs a song entitled the Moshi Dance, which received a million views a month on video site YouTube. But, after it was revealed that Mind Candy, the company behind Moshi Monsters, planned to release the track on iTunes, Lady Gaga wasn’t impressed – and took to the courts to stop them from putting it up for sale.

Mind Candy bosses weren’t happy at the move, as although it would have been a money-spinner, the character was a favourite for millions of kids across the globe – and, in fairness, the cartoon spin-off barely resembled Gaga at all. But the injunction, taken out earlier this week, stops Mind Candy “‘...promoting, advertising, selling, distributing or otherwise making available to the public The Moshi Dance OR any musical work or video which purports to be performed by a character by the name of Lady Goo Goo, or which otherwise uses the name Lady Goo Goo or any variant thereon”.

“This court ruling is a huge disappointment,” said CEO Michael Smith. “It’s pretty obvious that kids will be able to tell the difference between the two characters. The shame is that millions of kids fell in love with Lady Goo Goo’s debut single on YouTube and now won’t be able to enjoy her musical exploits.

“It was all done in the name of fun and we would have thought that Lady Gaga could have seen the humour behind this parody.”

Admittedly, it does seem like an evil thing for the ‘Telephone’ singer to do - think of the children Gaga! Ironically, Gaga will be performing at Children in Need in Manchester this November 17th – check the link below for tickets.
