Bruno Mars Gets Away With Cocaine Possession

Hawaii-born singer-songwriter Bruno Mars has been cleared of possession of class A drug cocaine, despite previously pleading guilty in court.

Mars was caught in Las Vegas in February 2010 by a toilet attendant at a Hard Rock Hotel, with the ‘Grenade’ singer allegedly seen holding a bag of the white powder while walking out of the toilets. But, despite facing a whole range of punishments, he has now had his case dismissed, meaning Mars may walk free.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was set to face a year of probation, a $2000 fine, 200 hours of community service, drug counselling and, of course, a criminal record to go with it. But, the judge postponed accepting the guilty plea, instead deciding to wait before a final decision is made.

Now, despite not turning up to today’s court hearing in Las Vegas, Mars’ lawyers reportedly managed to convince the judge that the star has been “keeping out of trouble” and had also carried out his ‘part’ of the probation. One lawyer was quoted saying: “Bruno earned the dismissal; he exceeded the expectations of the court.”

You can catch Bruno Mars performing at this year’s Grammy Award ceremony, where he’ll also be in the run-in for six awards. The show will be hosted by LL Cool J.
