Flame-haired singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was one of the fast-rising stars of 2011 – and now he’s managed to shift over 78,000 tickets for his up and coming UK tour within just 24 hours of them going on-sale.
Tickets for his autumn tour went on sale on Wednesday morning, and by Thursday, he had shifted 78,000 of them – prompting Sheeran to take to Twitter to tell his fans how excited he was for the tour. The guitar star even had to add a number of extra dates at venues in London, Newcastle and Birmingham after tickets sold-out almost immediately.
Writing through Twitter, Sheeran said: “Yesterday, we sold 78,000 tickets for my autumn tour! I love that statistic! Bring on the tour!!!”
2011 was a phenomenal year for Ed and to kick-start his 2012 Ed recently received four BRIT award nominations, short-listed in the categories for British Solo Male, British Breakthrough Act, British Single for 'The A Team' & British Album of the Year for '+’.
Speaking about the success of the last 12 months, Ed said: “Exactly a year ago to the day I signed my record deal with Asylum/Atlantic Records. Today I have an album that's gone triple platinum, 3 sold out tours and now four BRIT Award nominations. I'm over the moon! I really couldn't have hoped for a better start to 2012.”
