Olympic Closing Ceremony Will Be Blur’s Last Gig

Tuesday, 10 April 2012 Written by Elliott Batte

Britpop legends Blur may be set to perform their last gig together at this year's Olympics Closing ceremony, after frontman Damon Albarn suggested that there'd be no more live shows or new music from the band.

Albarn and co. have been performing together at one-off shows and tours for the past couple of years, and are putting out a new track in the very near future. But, while some fans may have thought the song was the beginning of a Blur revival, it actually seems to be the beginning of the end for the band – with Albarn revealing that he doubted there'd ever be any more new Blur material ever again.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Albarn said: “[The new track] is the first Blur song where it’s been one take. Previously I never finished the lyrics before we recorded – which is quite nice, because I don’t really see any more recordings after this.” Then, when asked whether he the band would continue performing out after their Olympic show, he replied: “No, not really.”

Time may be up for Albarn's animated side-project Gorillaz, too, with the musical mastermind telling the paper: “I think we [Albarn and his Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett] were at cross purposes somewhat on that last record, which is a shame.”
